“We are now one step closer to not having to carry a lot of plastic cards with us when we go out the door,” said a tech outlet.
BankID in Sweden will begin offering digital identities that users can have on their smart phones, to be used as an official license and passport.
As reported by Swedish tech outlet Teknikveckan, ‘We are now one step closer to not having to carry a lot of plastic cards with us when we go out the door. BankID has developed a digital ID card that is created using a valid ID document that will be released shortly. But it cannot be obtained with the help of a driver’s license, but only with a passport or national ID card.’
Registration, according to BankID’s website, the setup is fairly simple:
- The customer identifies themselves in the BankID app to open their digital ID card.
- The digital ID card is displayed in the app for two minutes. After that, the customer will need to verify their identity again. The digital ID card displays:
- A facial image
- Name, personal identity number and age
- Security details
- A mobile QR code for verifying the digital ID card
- The company scans the QR code in the customer’s app. This can be done via the BankID interface and i.e. a connected scanner, or a BankID app.
A driver’s license cannot be used as a valid authentic document.
Companies and terminals must then scan the unique QR code to verify the credentials.
BankID says, ‘If your company has an agreement for the BankID service, you can start accepting digital ID cards as soon as your system has been adapted to enable it to scan QR codes and retrieve the identification certificate.’
Furthermore, the firm says that this new digital ID is designed to be more secure and convenient.
Sweden has been on the cutting edge of a cashless society, and embracing biometrics as a means of completing transactions and adding an alleged ease of access in everyday life.
Nations around the world are of course rolling out digital IDs, or are at least in hot pursuit in creating one very soon.

Yet another step towards the eventual mark of the beast. Before that system can be put in place, a new framework must be in place; one that is totally digital and totally fiat.
