I became your enemy because I tell you the truth
“You can fool some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” A. Lincoln

“We need to launch preemptive strikes so that they know what will happen to them if they use it, and not vice-versa.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky infuriated Russian officials and caused many other’s heads to turn, when the former actor suggested that NATO forces should launch a “preemptive” nuclear missile strike on Moscow, Russia.

Zelensky’s comments were made in October of last year but managed to mostly fly under the radar in most of Western media. They have since begun to resurface on social media as of late.

On October 6th, 2022, Zelensky had a discussion with the Lowy Institute, an Australian foreign policy think tank, where he made these controversy comments. During the discussion he said this:

What should NATO do? They can use nuclear weapons on Russia, but what is important. I once again appeal to the international community, as it was before February 24th.

We need to launch preemptive strikes so that they know what will happen to them if they use it, and not vice-versa. We need to eliminate the possibility that Russia will use nuclear strikes, in case Putin says, ‘Oh, you want it that way? Well, here you are.’

Rethinking the use of pressure is what I think NATO should be doing. Reconsider the order of application of nuclear weapons.

Zelensky said

The full interview can be seen below:

Naturally Russian officials waxed hot after Zelensky made these statements.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement on Telegram: “Zelensky’s statements are nothing more than a call to start a world war with unpredictable monstrous consequences.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also called Zelensky a “monster,” additionally citing other Western leaders who have insinuated using nuclear weapons:

Polish President Duda: The problem lies primarily in the fact that we do not have nuclear weapons. And there are no signs that we, Poland, will receive it anytime soon. There is always a potential opportunity to participate in Nuclear Sharing. We have discussed with American leaders whether the United States is considering this possibility. The topic is open.

President of Belarus Lukashenko: “What does this mean? That we are really facing an attack with tactical nuclear weapons. We need to take measures, we don’t have any.

President of Ukraine Zelensky: NATO must launch preventive nuclear strikes against Russia.

The West is fueling a nuclear war Every person on the planet must realize that the puppet and unbalanced character pumped up with weapons, Zelensky, has turned into a monster whose hands can destroy the planet.

Zakharova wrote

‘“That’s why it is them who are responsible and must held accountable for the actions and statements of this man and this regime,” Putin’s spokesman told the state-run RIA Novosti news agency,’ The Moscow Times reported.

After Zelensky’s comments received some backlash his aides and other Ukrainian officials tried to back peddle and clarify those comments.

Zelensky’s spokesman Serhii Nykyforov said in a Facebook post, “You will never hear such calls from Ukraine.”

Zelensky himself tried to backtrack those remarks in a follow-up interview the BBC, where he said that there was a mistranslation in what he spoke, and it is Russia who is trying to instill fear in their people and not the other way around.

I said you have to do preventive kicks, not attacks.

Zelensky told BBC’s John Simpson – which the BBC inserted the interpretation that this was “referring to sanctions.”

RT wrote, ‘The phrase he used literally translates as “preemptive strikes,” with the word “udary” in Ukrainian meaning both “strikes” and “kicks.” How exactly the word could translate as “sanctions,” neither Nikoforov nor Zelensky offered to explain.’
