Any guesses why this might be?
As cases of Australians suddenly going into cardiac arrest rise, a suburb in northern Melbourne has installed easy access defibrillators in many locations and homes to allow residents to try and save their neighbor’s lives if they happen to go into cardiac arrest.
Australia’s News 7 reports that this is a first in all of Australia.
Gordon Botwright of St. John Ambulance CEO, says every home is 400 meters (approximately a quarter of a mile) away from a defibrillator, with thousands also trained in providing CPR. 27 defibrillators have been installed on homes.
Sudden cardiac arrest affect[s] and impact[s] almost everybody. It’s not about age, it’s not about gender, it is simply a killer across the board.

The Aussie news station says that over 6,500 sudden cardiac arrests happen each year, with 80% of them happening in the home. The defibrillator increases the chance that the victim will survive the ordeal.
St. John’s wants to expand elsewhere in provincial Victoria, but wants Premier Danny Andrews to fork over the cash to cover the costs and implantation.
However in October New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard and NSW Ambulance Assistant Commissioner Clare Beechl, announced that they will be installing defibrillators across the province as well, coupled with a smartphone app called GoodSAM, alerting trained citizens to perform CPR before paramedics arrive on the scene.
GoodSAM is short of “Good Samaritan.”
7 News added: ‘The four-year partnership between NSW ambulance and GoodSAM will see the app integrated with ambulance dispatch and a registry set up to map nearby defibrillators. The defibrillators could be in the back of a trained responder’s car or fixed to a wall in a building, so the public registry will allow the community to log a device’s location that could then be accessed by a responder, delivering lifesaving defibrillation earlier.’
